The overall plan is to return the Variety Theater complex, which is a mixed use buildings consisting of apartments, commercial storefronts and a theater space, back to productive use. The first phase of the renovation to upgrade the buildings electrical system and service is currently underway, next will come the installation of the marquee canopy and vertical blade. Estimates put complete renovation costs at $12 million. Because the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, special care will be taken to ensure the historic features are preserved, replaced and replicated through out the building. The Variety Theatre is also the centerpiece of the Lorain Avenue Master Plan.
